This seems like an odd thing to try to revive civil rights protests around:

In an off-campus attack on a Friday night, one of the Jena Six – Robert Bailey – was attacked with beer bottles by a group of white men at a party.

The next Monday, white student Justin Barker taunted Mr. Bailey about the beating. Moments later, six black students knocked Mr. Barker unconscious and kicked him for more than a minute while he was lying in a school hallway. He face was badly swollen and bloodied, but he was able to attend a school function that night.

Five of the black students, including 17-year-old Mychal Bell, were charged with attempted second-degree murder with bail amounts ranging from $70,000 to $138,000. The charges eventually were reduced to aggravated second-degree battery.

If a group of six people knock someone unconscious and then kick him for more than a minute, it is debatable whether this should be attempted second-degree murder or assault. Plenty of people have been knocked unconscious, and then once defenseless such as to kicks to the head, have been beaten to death.

I have a hard time seeing how so many on the Left are rallying around the six kids that committed this kind of violence.

I did a blog post search on this topic and it appeared like every post supported the “Jena 6″, and the posts were highly emotional because it is said that whites get off easier in similar circumstances. Well if 6 whites knocked a black person unconscious and then kicked him for more than a minute, I would say that deserves punishment just as tough. Again, it is debatable whether this should be attempted second-degree murder or assault. It depends on the details of the case.

Defending 6 kids who have beaten someone severely is a long way from defending Rosa Parks.
