McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Proposal
John McCain and Ted Kennedy have teamed up to propose immigration reform based around amnesty for illegal aliens. California Yankee at RedState comments:
Senators John McCain and Edward Kennedy have introduced an immigration reform bill that would allow some of the estimated 10-12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to get legal jobs and eventual citizenship.
History has proven that amnesty a mistake. … The IRCA (1986, Immigration Reform and Control Act) made nearly 4 million illegals eligible for legal residency. That policy was an obvious failure because now there are between 8 and 12 million illegal aliens working in the U.S. If amnesty is now given to these millions, then we should only expect that fifteen years from now we will have to consider amnesty for 20 million more.
I realize that immigrants are an extremely vital element of our economy. Nevertheless, the only way I can see to stem the increasing flood of illegal aliens is to establish a guest worker program that doesn’t reward those who came into the U.S. illegally, punish those that hire illegal aliens, and make a serious effort to control the border.
Talking about amnesty without a concrete plan to secure the borders is a joke. Their plan will simply be a repeat the 1986 amnesty program. Are these regular amnesty programs supposed to pass as real immigration policy? Just seems like a de facto open borders policy to me.
I talked about how it is possible to secure the borders here and here. It is just a matter of political will.
And that political will is certainly not going to be due to any political leadership coming from Ted Kennedy. Kennedy’s ilk will label any serious effort to secure the border as racist. This is why politicians are afraid to talk about it. (Thank God for the blogosphere, where people can talk about issues that politicians and the MSM are afraid to touch!)
This is another issue that the GOP leadership needs to wake up on. They should go and talk with Arnold. He understands the problem of illegal immigration.

THANKS FOR THE IMMIGRATION BILL UNDER DISCUSSION,
P.S PLEASE GIVE THESE ILLEGALS A CHANCE, COS MOST OF THEM ARE JUST TRYING TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLES OF THEIR FAMILIES BACK HOME,
P.S REMEMBER THAT , THOSE WHO HAVE OVER-STAYED VISAS, SHOULD BE GIVEN A BETTER CHANCE, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE DATE THEY ARRIVED THE COUNTRY,,,,COS IT WILL BE ILLOGICAL TO LIMIT A JAN.4TH 2004 DATE ,,, WITHOUT CONSIDERING THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY WHO JUST RAN OUT OF TIME ON THEIR VISA,,SOME ALREADY HAVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS,,SO I SUGGEST THEY JUST INTERGRATE BY LEGALISING THEIR STAY,E,G WITH AN EMPLOYER,,,,THSES GROUP SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RETURN TO THEIR HOME COUNTRIES TO GET FRESH PAPERS,,( AS LONG AS THE DONT HAVE ANY CRIMINAL BACKGROUNDS),
THANKS FOR CONSIDERATION AND BEING COMPASSIONATE,
SMITH.
