What Will Obama Do as President? Who Knows, but it Will Likely Get Scary.

The left in Europe and Canada have been moving to restrict free speech. This is now on the horizon in the US also. Stephen Green at VodkaPundit writes:

If (when?) Obama is elected, by my estimation there’s an at least even chance that the newly-reconstructed FCC will reverse course and attempt to apply the New Fairness Doctrine to blogs.

If (when?) it happens, I’ll break that law. I will break it with all due malice and in full knowledge of the possible consequences. I’ll shout “Fire Obama!” in a crowded theater. And then, for the first time ever, I’ll ask for reader donations. Because I’ll going to need them, lots of them, to pay for the lawyers.

But that law, should it pass, will not stand.

The thing about Obama is that he puts on a great moderate face, but then when you dig into the policies that he supports, you can draw some really scary conclusions. So when Obama is elected, who knows what to expect.

Just look at the thug tactics his campaign has been using to silence critics. The mainstream media had been derelict in reporting about this. Just imagine if Republicans did this. Obama’s team has picked up on the shout-down and intimidation tactics used by ACORN (like here, here and here). So doesn’t this tend to say that Obama might move to restrict free speech as president?

    Dan,

You can probably find an older retired friend and blog using his identity to avoid professional reprocussions. You can email blog posts to him and he can simply post them.

In Europe there are some who want bloggers to “register” with the Authorities (cue the scary zither music) in order to blog.

Leftist never cease to amaze me to what profound extent that they would control our lives if they simply had the power to do so. They are the biggest authoritarians on the face of the planet. When you really think about what a “blog” is……………….and that they would want to be able to deny even a person typing their random takes on matters in electronic form, its absolutely disgusting. This is *real* McCarthyism and Big Brother and Sovietism all wrapped up into one.

I do take heart however. If Obama is elected and proves to try and do some of these things, plenty of people will see the Democrats for who they are and get active within the Republican Party and take it back from the Neo-Cons. Blogs are our alternative to The Weekly Standard and National Review Establishment Conservatism, which is Neo-Conservatism of former Trotskyites like Irving Kristol and that East-Side “intelligensia”. It certainly isn’t of Reagan anymore, or Goldwater.

    miles,

I think if they told me to register I simply would not do it. It would be fun to see what they might try to do.

I think that there will be a mass revolt of bloggers of all political stripes if registration is ordered.

This is absurd. The FCC does not have any regulatory authority over blogs. This isn’t even fear mongering at its worst. It’s fear mongering at its dumbest.

    Bobby,

New laws can change the FCC to regulate whoever Congress says it should. Existing jurisdiction is irrelevant.

    Garbage.
