With massive new entitlements in the pipe, and Social Security and Medicare soon to run short of money, Democrats are searching for a new source of tax revenues. The Democrats’ dream, of course, is to complete the transition of the US into a European-style welfare state. One problem with this is that someone (everyone) has to pay for it. The VAT promises to produce fountains of cash - a lefty politician’s dream. VAT taxes tax anything that moves. If you take a breath - you will be taxed. (So, hey, seriously, stop breathing.)
