Classy Quotes by Atrios

One thing that you can say about Duncan Black (alias Atrios, pictured above) is that he is out in the open in telling you all of the people that he hates. For some reason Duncan Black appears to think that he has a free-pass to viscously denounce those that he politically disagrees with. Why he deserves this free-pass to be so intolerant, while his opponents are expected to act more respectfully, is unclear.
Flinging every profanity imaginable at those that he disagrees with is a trademark of Duncan Black. Relentless character attacks is the other trademark. To Duncan Black, those on the other side of the political fence are just immoral slobs. And this guy is supposed to be an enlightened college professor? Lordy.
In light of this intolerance and profanity-flinging, it is interesting that Atrios seems to genuinely consider himself to be tolerant. To get a sense of his kind of tolerance, consider this Atrios quote:
“You wanna debate? Bring it on. You got nothing but moronic hate.
“Disagreement is NOT an attempt to take away your right to speak. Only in your deluded insecure senstive pathetic little baby brains it that the case. You got something to say? Say it. But I’m gonna call you on it, bigotboy.”
Whew, now is that someone that you want to sit down with and have a civil debate on the issues of the day, or what? Clearly, a model of civility.
Well, once the debating starts, let’s see the example that Atrios sets for the readers of his site. Keep in mind that he is the #1 (for traffic) left-of-center individual blogger in the U.S., so certainly he would realize his example has consequences. So let’s get rolling on the list of quotes …
Setting the tone for debate by maximizing your sweeping stereotypes of your opponents:
How to characterize your chief blogging competitor:
How to criticize a blogging competitor who happens to be gay:
Daily reminder of your moral superiority to those that you disagree with:
“Fun Google hit of the day: republican hypocrites sucking cock.”
A basic method for disagreeing with someone:
Denouncing Kristof (whoever that is):
“… But, now that it’s all over, I can say - Fuck you Kristof, you human scum.”
More love for Kristof (apparently Kristof is a criminal of some sort … or a Republican):
Raising the bar on respecting the office of presidency:
Elevating commentary on the presidency as well as mentally handicapped people:
Patriotic impulses in his first response when hearing about problems at Abu Ghraib prison:
Hinting that conservatives make natural child molesters:
When in doubt, just go for hate:
On how to label people as racist to squelch debate that is not politically correct:
Using charges of racism as a mantra to win arguments:
Always assign bad motives to your opponents (bonus: accompany it with super-advanced analysis of world events):
How to disagree with a religous leader’s point of view:
Raising the bar for art as well as political discourse:
“Don’t miss the killer song by Nofx, ‘Idiot Son of an Asshole!’ (flash/audio)” [Video in question is here.]
A free-pass for intolerance means attacking your opponents character is your first duty:
And don’t let up:
Enforcing political partisanship:
Revisiting Junior High School style name-calling:
Clarifying what religious tolerance means:
Thoughts on religous inclusiveness on the Left:
All of your opponents are conveniently liars:
The guy just can’t seem to stop, the free-pass is just to inviting:
“George Will - liar or moron? Why do these idiots have a platform…”
General lack of respect for your opponents:
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned about arguing with conservative assholes …”
Final quote - recall that Atrios considers himself tolerant!
“If you want to preach your crap, us more tolerant folk are gonna preach our crap more loudly.”
Now, if the above quotes are those of a tolerant person - imagine what an intolerant person must be like!
Now have a nice day.

In an effort to balance things out, I thought I would post a link to one of the largest liberal blogs - Daily Kos. In fact, it is the most widely read web log of them all. However, also in

Steve J.,
Got a link for that quote? The only one that I could find was here:
“In this recurring nightmare of a presidency, we have a national debate about [George W. Bush's stolen presidency]…. Otherwise there would be debates only about whether to impeach or assassinate.”
Seems to me that your quote isn’t quite accurate…

Hmmm … Beat dead horses much? Especially ones from … what, 2002? How’d it take years for you to come up with your quotes of the day, hm? A whopping three quotes from 2005 (most recent: May). Real timely, there …
By the way: you mean to tell me you don’t know who Nick Kristof is? Hint: follow the links you included. Yep—the ones in your own post. You know, the ones that take you to Atrios (the ones from last year), then to Roger Ailes, then to Kristof’s column in the NY Times. Or search Google; that works pretty well, too. And it’s nice that you decided to leave out the context of Atrios’s remarks on Kristof—it was about the article Kristof wrote where Nick gave slave dealers money for two women. Whereupon Nick said that, if anyone else did this, it would be wrong. Ya know, context might just help …

bertie,
Timely, who cares? I don’t care if his quotes are ten years old.
I feel no obligation to provide additional context. Every quote has a direct link to its source. If a reader wants more context, they just have to follow the links.
I could have followed the link to see what his issue was with Kristof, but I couldn’t hold my nose that long. If a reader wants to follow the links, they are free to do so. Personally, my interest in why Atrios is calling someone “human scum” is not very high. Hell, all Republicans are “nasty bigots and liars …” to him.

You know you’ve hit a nerve when the liberals are leaving comments. Too bad they can’t muster the backbone to call out Duncan Black for what he is. It’s no surprise that he’s a college professor - most college campuses today are a Petri dish for mediocre intellect and an echo chamber for liberal thinking. It’s amazing anyone with conservative opinions actually graduates given the liberal propensity for emotional reactions to differing views.

These comments by Duncan Black are really over the top. No wonder liberals are so powerless. They are filled with nothing but Hate, hate, hate.
Except that one about George Will. That guy IS a moron.

These quotes are excactly why I can’t read liberal blogs. They simply do not understand how to make a point. When they aren’t swearing or flat out making up unlinked ‘facts’, they are spewing curse-laden ad hominems that do nothing to further meaningful debate.
It’s too bad really. I would like to understand why liberals think the way they do.

While I agree with most of Atrios comments, I often think he does not go far enough.
I much prefer someone like Mike Malloy who sees the rightwing wackos for the criminals that they are.
Additionally, I hope sincerely that the entire Bush crime family is tried for war crimes and sentenced the same as their Nazi mentors.

Atrios is a college professor? I didn’t know that. Based on my encounters with liberal academics, it figures. A more arrogant, narrow-minded and dishonest community you will not find…except perhaps in a Ministry of Truth.

[...] In presidential elections, I vote for the Republican. It’s a no-brainer. Democrats are for more government and more social control (except for woman aborting fetuses and gays getting married). Hard core liberals, as a group, are very intolerant. Just go to any of the big lefty blogs and read the comments. Or just read Atrios or Daily Kos blog posts, the two top lefty blogs, to see the models of intolerance. There is a kind of secular-religious fervor behind liberalism. The liberal ideology, and attendant political correctness demanded of others, is so stifling that I just can’t bring myself to ever vote for liberals. [...]
