Jarhead, Tom Neven Pans the Book and the Movie

I have never read the book Jarhead but I did read some reviews of it when it came out. The reviews were favorable in the sense that it was supposed to portray the gritty reality of war. Now there is a Jarhead movie out and I hoped it would be good. But writer and former Marine Tom Neven tells us that they are both bad:

Many people throughout the world will come away with the unmistakable impression that all American fighting men are foul-mouthed, sex-crazed, homicidal maniacs and that their wives and girlfriends back home are unfaithful harlots just itching to hop into the nearest bed. After all, they have the “word” of an actual former Marine.

Why does the Hollywood left unfailingly portray major events, especially anything in recent military history, as being centered around an ugly America? And these people get rich doing this.

I cannot wait for alternatives to arise to challenge Hollywood. I predict that this will begin happening sooner than you might think. The Liberty Film Festival is a start.

This is the next front in the culture war, beating Hollywood at their own game.
