GM vs. Toyota Labor Costs

Compare GM to Toyota:

gm

So while unions force GM to pay far above market wages and benefits, in the long run it hurts workers. GM is on the verge of bankrupcy and is about to drop to the #2 automaker in the world behind Toyota. GM will continue downsizing and many workers will lose their jobs.

Update: So is the U.S. Manufacturing Sector in Decline? Acutally, no.

Who makes the HumVees with all the variations that keep getting blown up. How about the tanks? M-16’s, Ammo, MRE’s. China? I don’t think so. So people have jobs, earn money in the US, spend money in the US. Should labor and all related costs be as high as they are? No way. An assembler making 100K? Probably lucky if they made it out of high school. Let em die on the fine if they are so stupid and crank out junk.
We don’t need dealers–independant mechanics know more and do better work. Wise up bloodsuckers. You killed the host. Thor

  11. JLP Says:

CEO of GM made $10,000,000 in 2006 & $14,000,000 in 2007. Of the top 6 GM Execs only 1 made less in 07 than 06. The other 5 total compensation went up 25% or more.

$14,000,000 would take a union US auto employee working 96 years based on the $73/hour which includes all benefits and costs.

Toyota CEO made less than $1,000,000. That is 14X less than GM Exec. and 3X less than the lowest paid GM Exec.

I am a Mid level manager, not a union guy. Data above speaks for itself and clearly shows the greed is at the top.

I think the only question left to be asked is why the Health care is so much less for Toyota since the wages are almost Identical. And when will the US realize that the only way out is National Health Care.
